Notes

From our friends at Artemis Design Co. This style was created due to popular request from Artemis fans and team members alike. Much like a classic mule, the Kilim Slipper is easy to wear with just about any outfit. All Artemis Kilim shoes are handmade from vintage, hand-sourced Turkish carpets, which means that no two pairs of our Kilim shoes will ever be alike. The Kilim Slippers pictured here are the actual pair that you will receive.

Details

Leather sole with 3/4 inch heel. Handmade in Istanbul in a small, family-owned workshop, by cobblers whose families have practiced the craft for generations. Kilims are a style of textile traditionally crafted on Turkey's Anatolian peninsula using wool, cotton, or silk. Kilims are flat-woven, featuring a thin, tight weave that make them a perfect textile for crafting shoes. Every symbol, color, and pattern woven into the Kilim has meaning and represents a hope, a dream, or a story from the life of the weaver.

Size & Fit

In these Artemis Loafers, we recommend selecting the European equivalent of the smallest US size you wear. For example, if you are usually a US 10, but sometimes wear a 9.5, order a 42 in the Kilim Loafer. In the open-back Kilim Slipper, order one size larger than that (a 43 for the previous example).

About Artemis

We believe that beautiful vintage Kilim textiles, made largely by women artists, deserve to be repurposed and preserved for admiration and enjoyment. Artemis makes beautiful things in a slow and careful way, using a treasured team of artisan suppliers and cobblers to ensure that their chain of production is hands-on, handmade, and brings as much pride as the products themselves.
